Before you start trying and failing, put your back foot in the pocket of your tail (back of the board) and scoop your foot forward so that your board does a front-pop. Now you just practice that until you can do it perfectly every time. Now the only difficulty left is adding the flip to that. I would tell you how, but in my experience, it is different for everybody. I believe this part is all mental, and very hard to explain in words without a demonstration. This is a front-side flip sequence. It is not a full 180 he actually reverts at the end but same concept really.
